Spring Stripes with Joe Fresh

Monday, April 30, 2018

Spring weather has finally started to show up - which means I can start putting my warm weather clothes to use. I think I switched my closet over way too early, considering just a couple weeks ago there was a huge ice storm that shut down the city. This week, the temperature is supposed to cross twenty degrees, which is a perfect opportunity to wear this combo!

When it's warm - I love wearing white. It feels very crisp and fresh for the weather and the colour also reflects heat which prevents overheating on super hot days. I love that this isn't a basic white top - the back has a super fun stripe detail that I love! It definitely lives up to the saying 'business in the front, a party in the back'. Overall, it's a super lightweight shirt that would also work well with shorts.

For this outfit, I paired the top with jeans because it's still a bit chilly out. It's so hard to find well fitting jeans for short legs like mine. This pair has a short inseam and it makes a huge difference in the fit!

Ringing in Spring with Target

Monday, April 23, 2018

It seems that Spring has finally arrived and I am sooooo excited! A couple of weekends ago, I was going through my closet to get it ready for warmer weather and I realized that a lot of my clothes no longer fit. I guess it's a good indicator that my hard work at the gym is paying off - but I also have nothing to wear.

I was searching through various different websites for some new clothing, but nothing really stood out, you know? My next step was to search my favourite bloggers' Instagram accounts for inspiration, which led me to the Target website. Now, Canada and Target have had a very rocky relationship. Target replaced the Canadian favourite Zellers, then ceased operations just two years later. When Target was in Canada - I was obsessed. The Holiday Shop, the Dollar Spot, and the cute affordable clothing had me hooked. When the stores closed - I was so upset.

Imagine my excitement, then, when I saw that Target is now shipping to Canada! That's right, you can have certain items from the Target website shipped to you in Canada. Not everything is eligible, but most of the clothes are and I'm so happy. The shipping costs are moderate and you can choose to prepay the import fees or have them assessed at the border and pay upon delivery

Target has really cute clothing at great prices (even after the dollar conversion) and the size range is really impressive. If you are petite, tall, or plus sized - you will still be able to find a size to fit you and that is amazing. I definitely got a little carried away on the website - and I'm expecting a fairly large order at my door in about a weeks time.

I put together a widget of all the items I placed in my cart - and I'll reveal what I ended up purchasing when everything arrives and I've tried the clothes on. In the meantime, head on over to Target's website if you need some fresh threads!

Christian Dior at the Royal Ontario Museum

Wednesday, April 11, 2018

The day I saw the announcement that the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) would have a selection of vintage Dior pieces as part of a limited run exhibition - I knew I had to see it. The ROM always has the bests exhibitions. Last summer I experienced the Blue Whale exhibit and it was seriously life-changing. I still talk about it all of the time and geek out about the giant preserved heart.

Museums are so wonderful because there is something there for everyone. From world history to biodiversity, to fashion - museums are home to a wide array of things to explore. I managed to make it to the exhibit a couple days before it closed - and I'm so glad I made it.

It was such a treat looking at all of the stunning dresses. Christian Dior is such an iconic designer, and I really loved learning about how he would plan designs, build them for specific models and showcase them in lavish presentations. I also loved seeing the hand embroidery. I was in awe of the attention to detail and sheer perfection of each dress. I caught myself thinking, "I would wear this now" at practically every dress I looked at. It takes a visionary to create something that will last the test of time - especially in an industry like fashion that is rapidly changing.

I started off taking photos on my phone because I thought DSLR photos weren't allowed. I noticed a bunch of people taking DSLR photos after a while, so I went through the exhibit a third time to take some photos.

I think it's pretty clear which dress was my favourite (😜).

What a memorable day! After the exhibit, I walked around the rest of the museum (I couldn't resist), grabbed lunch at the museum's cafe and hopped on the train home!

Spring Shopping

Monday, April 2, 2018

We've officially hit Spring (though the weather has some catching up to do) which prompts the ever popular Spring cleaning movement. I seriously enjoy Spring cleaning and look forward to it every year. Of all the Spring cleaning projects I tackle - my closet remains my favourite task. Year after year I get so excited to take every single piece of clothing out of my closet and deciding what gets to go back in. In short, the process is: trying on the items, seeing how it fits, seeing if it's in need of repair, and ultimately deciding whether or not to keep it. I can do an in-depth post on this if wanted.

Once everything is put away or packed up for donation - I see what clothing I need for the season ahead. Today, I'm rounding up clothing I'll be adding to my closet once the purge is complete. I'm really looking forward to introducing more colour and lightweight fabrics back into my closet!

Will you be doing any Spring shopping?
