Right now, social media is buzzing with resolutions, goals, and hopes. New Year, New Me is a popular tagline among the people of my generation, and as much as I respect that - I don't subscribe to it. There is so much pressure right now to reinvent yourself and I just can't get on board. I think change is an ongoing process and perhaps we shouldn't be so rigid in imposing timelines on ourselves to be brand new.
This self-imposed pressure can lead to disaster if we break a resolution early in the year or don't see quick enough results. I've already encountered people who have given up completely on a resolution simply because they had one bad day. Rather than focusing on the process, we are all so focused on the end goal. Instead of taking small steps to lead us to our destination, we throw all of our eggs in one basket and complain that the basket is too heavy.
I am definitely guilty of expecting everything to be different and 'better' exactly on January 1st of the new year. Now, I'm realizing that it's okay if things are the same for a while. It's fine to take your time! Before you know it we'll be counting down to 2017 as different people than we are now.
Are you a resolutioner or do you go with the flow?
