Looking to the future

Today we are on the heels of a new year and honestly, I feel super weird about it. Like many people, this year has had a lot of challenges and very few triumphs. After some reflection on the past and thought to the future, I've carved out some goals that I will commit myself to achieving in the new year.

One // Back to blogging
I love blogging. It's great to have a space that is completely my own and it's even better that people want to share that with me! 2016 did not leave a lot of room for the blog and it was pretty devastating.in 2017, I will return to consistent posting of quality content.

Two // Travel
I traveled here and there this year, but I think I'm ready for a lot more! Canada is celebrating 150 years of confederation and all national parks have free admission. I hope to visit as many places as I can (Banff is #1 on my list) and document it on the blog.

Three // Save
I was at the bank yesterday, and a teller told me I'm the perfect age to start saving for retirement. Retirement is not really something I think about considering I've barely started my career - but after speaking briefly with an advisor I realize that it is important to start saving early! I made an appointment and can document that here as well.

Four // Workout
I've been working out semi-consistently for the past little while and I love it! It's such a great feeling when you realize that you're becoming stronger over time. Currently, I'm using BBG with weight training, but I'm thinking I'd like to start training for a short run or something along those lines next year!

Five // Heal
Full disclosure: I've experienced a lot of emotional trauma for the past 6-7 years. It is very, very, very difficult to live with this - and in 2017 I really hope to start undoing a tangled web of pain. I am so grateful for the people who I can rely on for support, and I'm sure 2016 would have been much worse without them. I've learned one step forward is still forward - and that's the direction I'd like to move in.

I'm feeling hopeful for 2017, but I also know that I have a lot of work to put in. I hope you'll join me for the ride!

xoxo

Gift Guide: Monogrammed Gifts

The next gift guide I have this week is sure to suit the needs of your monogram obsessed friend. I personally love a good monogram. Since monogrammed gifts take a little extra time and effort, it's always better to order early. All of the monogrammed gifts featured are from Mark and Graham. The monogramming service is always free and so is gift wrapping.

Another great thing about Mark and Graham is how quickly orders are filled. You can order up until the 13th of December and receive your monogrammed gift before Christmas! Check out my picks below!

50 Gifts under 50 Dollars

Today, I'm starting the gift guides with my personal favourite - gifts under $50. The holidays can definitely be overwhelming if you're planning on giving gifts, so budgeting is key. If you have many people to shop for finding great gifts under a certain price point can be a challenge, but it's not impossible!

I scoured the internet for the best (and useful) gifts that are sure to tick at least a few boxes on your list!

Shortlist: this apron, a perfect gift for the traveler, and another for the hostess!

PS: some items may be a bit cheaper since it's Cyber Monday!

Preppy Scientist Playlist: Halloween Edition

Happy Halloween! I love this day and the buildup before it. Though I have no real plans (besides handing out candy to the kiddos), I really enjoy decorating, deciding on a costume, watching horror films, reading horror stories (Edgar Allan Poe anyone?) and listening to classic Halloween tunes!

I put together a fun Halloween playlist perfect for a Halloween night party with friends or a low-key night at home!

On fitting in

Whew,

It has been quite some time since I've been active on this space! I really don't have an excuse other than life being overwhelming as always and unfortunately something having to take the back burner. I really missed blogging. I enjoy having this space to talk about whatever I choose and even better having other people read what I have to say.

I have been active on my other social media spaces, but it just didn't compare to my blog! Today I'm easing back in by talking fitting in. I'm sure many people experience the feeling of not fitting in at some point in their lives. Whether it be at school, work, organizations, blogging it can be tough out there.

Since I was a child, I have never felt that I really fit in anywhere! My interests and hobbies were always slightly out of step with the people around me and it was pretty isolating. Anytime I did find myself comfortable within a group of people, there was at least one part of my personality that was being stifled. Even now, in my adult life, I still don't think I have it figured out. I sometimes envy people with large groups of friends (even though I know that is not for me) because I look at them and think, "they've got it figured out."

I've even felt that way about blogging! I used to stress myself out thinking about where I should fit in as a blogger. Do I join XYZ network? Should I focus on one specific area? Should I censor myself? Hard questions that I still don't have perfect answers to...

What I've come to realize lately is I am who I am, I like what I like and I'll blog about whatever I want. There is no need to stress about finding a place to belong because I can create that place. I've done it here and I know I can do it wherever else life takes me!

Happy to be back
xoxo

Kate Spade Activewear

If you haven't heard by now, Kate Spade released a line of super chic activewear. Athleisure is a huge new market now and I definitely think Kate Spade struck gold with this line. If you resolved to hit the gym more this year, these clothes will definitely inspire you to follow through.

I personally love the bow neck jacket. How cute is it for running errands and warming up on the tennis court? Check out the rest of the collection below:
