Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale

Nordstrom is definitely one of my favourite department stores. We have a few popping up in Canada now which is really exciting! I can always count on Nordstrom to have my favourite brands in store and online, timely shipping and a great return policy.

The half-yearly sale is on right now and there are lots of great items on sale. Whether you are looking for something now or thinking ahead to next season, you'll definitely find something great within this sale. From now until May 30st, you can save up to 40% on in house and designer items (which is pretty awesome). I picked out a few items that I really love and hopefully you will too! Happy shopping!

Lessons from New York City Ballet

I was introduced to New York City Ballet while binge watching YouTube videos. There is a really great series by AOL about the company, that's on it's second season now. It takes you behind the curtain and you get to learn about individual dancers as well as the amazing staff who keep the company alive. You can watch that series here

During the performance, the dancers sit watching in the wings cheering each other on. Despite the fact that there are daily performances, Avery Lin says they don't get bored thanks to the rotating casts. "Everybody dances each one so differently," she says.

I love everything about ballet. The discipline, hard-work, perseverance, athleticism and desire for perfection are traits about ballet dancers that I admire. I also love the beautiful sets and costumes (who doesn't) and also the way that a ballet comes together. Watching the series taught me exactly how much time and work goes into putting a show on stage and I think it's something that can be applied to life and blogging.

Personally, I always wish to be polished and ready for the world. I often get discouraged when things are not ready or don't happen right away. It's easy to forget that the process is just as important as the results, and that is definitely a less you can take away from ballet. Hard work behind the scenes is the only way to prepare yourself to put something great out into the world. With blogging especially, we are flooded with beautiful outfits, Instagrams and attention; but must remember it's hard work that brings the success! It may look effortless, but truly it is not.

Keep working hard because the fruits of your labour will be so fulfilling!

Kate Spade 2016 Agendas and Stationery

This time of year is super exciting for my Type-A personality because my favourite brands release their agendas for the upcoming year. In the past I have used Filofax and Lilly Pulitzer planners, but I found peace with my Kate Spade planner.

As someone who uses both a planner and my phone to stay organized (I could write a post on this) it's okay if the planner is more low maintenance. I've been a part of some really cool planner groups on Facebook which have inspired me to use my planner in ways I wouldn't have thought about on my own! Kate Spade just released their planners and some cute stationery for the upcoming year and I'm in love! There are two sizes (medium and large - I prefer the large) and four designs.

This water colour type cover is probably my favourite. Super feminine and fun!

The stationery and cards are also fun additions to the planners. I like to have my planner match my stationery, so I'm pretty pleased with the collection!

Doors Open Toronto: The Bata Shoe Museum

This past weekend there was a really cool cultural event in Toronto called Doors Open Toronto. Over one hundred historically, culturally or architecturally significant buildings were open wide to the public with free admission! I heard about the event kind of late, so I didn't get to visit as many locations as I would have liked - but the event as a whole is really cool.

I got to spend the most time at the Bata Shoe Museum and it was really cool! There are a ton of shoes dating back to the beginning of civilization, and also every possible type of shoe you can think of (even Polly Pocket shoes).

These sparkly red shoes belonged to Sonja Bata, who is the founder of the shoe museum. She started the museum in 1979 after collecting shoes from various parts of the world. Her husband owned the Bata shoe company, and when they would travel Sonja would take home a pair of shoes that best represented the place they had traveled to!

Roger Federer's shoes!

Kinky boots!

I really enjoyed the museum! I (surprisingly) learned a lot about shoes and saw some really interesting footwear! Doors Open is a great way to get out into the community and learn some new things!
