When I first started doing yoga, I did not think that a bunch of crazy poses would make me stronger. I assumed I would be focusing on breathing and relaxation; not a faced-paced rigorous series that really makes you sweat (video for reference). For the first few weeks, I didn't notice a difference. I would struggle through the poses, feel absolutely beat up at the end of class and sore for days. These days I notice myself getting into the poses easier, but struggle with going deeper into a pose, out of fear that I'm not strong enough and will fall.
The point I'm trying to make is that you are stronger than you think, and a lot of that strength is in your mind. Once I realized that I could successfully carry a large bag of groceries home with no issue, I promised myself to try and go a little further in my yoga classes. Our mind can be our best friend or worst enemy. We can choose to remain the same out of fear, or to push ourselves (even a little bit) and be surprised. Going a little bit further each time we do something, can really make a difference. You'd be surprised at how much you can actually do, or how far you can go if you just free your mind and try! I know it's not always that simple and that some days are harder than others, but as long as you make a genuine effort to silence that doubt and fear, you will find strength.
