Week in Review!

This week was pretty hectic for me as I spent most of it getting ready to head back to school next week. I'm really excited to be back on campus this Fall and catch up with everyone I haven't seen for the past few months.

This Week in Review:

Embellished Dresses:

Embellished DressEmbellished Dress

I pinned a bunch of embellished dresses this week because I think they are gorgeous. I love how a simple dress can be dressed up with a few well placed embellishments! Check out C. Wonder and Tuckernuck for more.

Okay I'm obsessed with this song and the video. Mary Lambert definitely gets the whole "crushing on someone" experience right no matter who you love! Just adorable.

Okay another video here. I came across this purely by chance, but my curiosity led me to try it out. If you've ever struggled to make perfect scrambled eggs (like me), this is the video for you. Martha Stewart is seriously the queen of everything domestic (your taste buds will thank you).

Lola Overnight Bag, Indigo

Lastly, I really love this weekender bag by Lola. It's perfect for your Labour Day trip with tons of room and both a handle and cross body strap for easy transport!

I hope you have a wonderful Labour Day weekend!

People Like Us

I really love this song by Kelly Clarkson. I think it's really great that more singers are singing about 'real life issues' in their songs these days!

PS: doesn't the video remind you of the movie Pleasantville?

Hey it's Okay!

1. To make an extensive shopping list and leave for the store without it.
2. To only use small change to pay for a $10 item.
3. To whack that spider a few extra times - just in case it didn't die the first time.
4. To listen to the same song on repeat all. day. long.
5. To use bleach cleaner to clean every surface of your apartment.
6. To use your phone's front camera as a mirror on the bus.
7. To have the entire Legally Blonde broadway soundtrack memorized.
8. To hit the snooze button 2 or 3 times before getting out of bed.
9. To stay in pajamas all day when working from home
10. To bake just one cupcake.

5 Minute Makeup!

The back to school buzz is louder than ever and everyone is prepping themselves to have their best year yet! I know that many students (myself included) lose a lot of sleep time when school is back in session, so it's super important to make use of every second!

I really value my sleep, so I'm always trying to make my mornings as efficient as possible. I typically pick out my outfit and have my bag packed from the night before - so in the mornings I really only have to worry about my makeup.

I've managed to come up with a pretty straightforward routine that makes me look awake and feel confident to take on the day!
I like to start with a face primer so that my skin is smooth enough for the rest of my makeup. I like this QUO brand that I buy at the drugstore!

Next I used Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream all over my face. I don't like foundation for everyday because it's a bit too heavy and time consuming to put on.

Tarte - Cheek Stain

Next, I quickly put the Tarte Creme Blush in Blissful on my cheeks and blend it in!

Then I put on my favourite mascara Benefit's They're Real. This makes my eyelashes look super long which I really like!

Lastly, I finish with using Baby Lips balm and a neutral lip gloss!

Voila! The look is complete.
This routine takes no time and looks great!

What is your makeup routine?

Week in Review

This is something new that I'd like to introduce on the blog: The Week in Review.
This will consist of fun stuff that I happen across on the web that I'll share with you!

Anything goes! Expect clothes, articles, music, pins - anything and everything!

This Week in Review:

How delicious do these chicken salads look?
I love the non-traditional way it's served in an avocado!

Greek Key Stool

I really want this ottoman stool in my apartment, stat.
I love the detailing and I think this would look great in my office.

Walk Off the Earth (famous for their 5 person, 1 guitar Goyte cover) is probably my favourite Canadian band. I loved their first single Red Hands and now I'm totally into their new hit Royal. Check out their awesome instrument setup in this one take video. Pure talent!

I'm obsessed with these Kate Spade cat flats. I'm not sure that I could ever wear them out of the house, but they are just so darn cute!

Are you excited for the Week in Review?

Currently Reading: Names My Sisters Call Me

If  you follow me on Goodreads, you may already know that I'm currently reading Megan Crane's novel titled Names My Sisters Call Me. I picked this up at the library two weeks ago and so far I really really love it. It's a fairly quick read, and had I not been in the middle of summer finals I would have already finished this book.

The novel revolves around protagonist Courtney. After becoming engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Courtney tries to reconnect with her estranged sister Raine. This is much to the dissatisfaction of her eldest sister Norah who's wedding was completey ruined by Raine six years ago; when she took off to LA with Courtney's then secret boyfriend.

The drama.

This book challenges the definition of sisterhood, family and true love. Definite must read!

Preppy Scientist Approved [Backpacks]

School is just around the corner, which means it's time to go out and pick up those last minute essentials. Everyone knows how important finding that perfect school bag is. After all, your bag will be carrying around all your essentials and therefore will be attached to you at all times. Personally I love tote bags, but  thanks to a past neck injury and my tendency to fill my bag up to the brim, I have been prescribed to carry a backpack around camps.

The horror.

I've spent a lot of time researching functional and more importantly cute backpacks for school (it's harder than you think).

This definitely falls more under the functional category, but since it comes in pink I think I can get by.

I really like this bag because it can hold everything I need and can be monogrammed.
Proof that less can be more!

This backpack is pretty standard and the pattern reminds me of the days when I idolized Lisa Frank.

Will you be sporting a backpack this school year?

New York, New York

I'm a small town girl, but I must confess that the City will always have a piece of my heart. There are just so many different exciting things to explore, plus my favourite movie (Breakfast at Tiffany's) is set there!

I'm really loving the New York inspired items that Kate Spade has just released in honour of the wonderful City!

How adorable?

On Repeat

I tweeted this video last night, but since then I've seriously played this at least 15 times.
I'm a huge sucker for mashup type covers!

5 Ways to Feel Better Instantly

If you're like me and constantly feel like you have way too much to do, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and sometimes very anxious.

It's easy to fall into slumps but I'm a firm believer that the little things in life make all the difference!

Here are 5 small ways to feel better instantly!

1. Add cucumber slices to your water.
It sounds gross but trust me it's really refreshing and will instantly improve your mood.

2. Listen to your favourite song
So simple, but a sure way to feel great!

My current favourite song!

3. Scroll through Cute Roulette
I love this website! Who doesn't love videos of cute animals doing cute things?

4. Wash or Sanitize your hands.
I instantly feel 1000% better when I wash my hands or use my favourite sanitizer.

Fresh Picked Heirloom Pear PocketBac Sanitizing Hand Gel - Anti-Bacterial - Bath & Body Works
The Bath and Body Works Heirloom Pear hand gel is sure to be my Fall favourite

5. Burn a candle
Personally, whenever I don't feel my best I love to burn a candle. Something about my favourite scent filling up every space of my apartment just makes me feel great!

The Bath and Body Works Peach Bellini scent is my all time favourite!

Sugar Donuts!

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you may already know that I dabbled in donut making last night.  Sadly, my favourite place for sugar donuts is about an hour away so I had to take my craving into my own hands!

I simply googled 'sugar donut recipes' and many results popped up.
Ultimately I decided to use the Miss Delish recipe!

My result

As you can see - these ended up looking like donut holes. For some reason the dough was super sticky and would not hold it's shape when I fried them. Next time I'll add a touch more flour!

Verdict: These were super delicious and I highly recommend making them for yourself!

This or That

After my favourite pair of flats were ruined by the rain a few days ago, I've been researching appropriate footwear for the upcoming 'wet' months.

I go back and forth between the L.L Bean boots and Hunter Wellies. Both are appropriate for wet weather, cute and affordable! I just can't decide!

Which ones should I get?

PS: how cute are the color block wellies

Preppy Scientist Approved [School Supplies]

I just posted about Fall being around the corner, which also means that many of us will be heading back to school!

When I was younger, I always used to get really excited to shop for school supplies. Even though teachers sent home a list of school mandated items (black and blue pens, lined paper, 1.5 inch binders, white plastic erasers) my lists were always super long and detailed (read: and excel sheet with exact brands, quantities and prices). There was just something so charming about going back to school with new notebooks, pens, pencils and binders.

Now that I'm in university I get to choose what school supplies I use each year, which is pretty exciting!
Here are some of my top choices:

Hello Weekend Pencils - White, Aqua, & Gold, Set of 6

2013-2014 Lilly Pulitzer Jumbo Agenda - Lucky Charms Navy

Mental Note Sticky

Lilly Pulitzer Mini Notebook - Chin Chin

What are your school supply must haves?
