The Wristlet

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

I really love wristlets! As someone who doesn't really like to carry big bags, they are perfect for me. They can be carried out to fancier events, and dressed down for day to day wear.
I especially love wristlets for tailgating, and with football season just around the corner - I'm in the market for a new one!

Help me narrow it down, will you?

Garrance Dore Julia - Kate Spade | Take Me Croc - Marc Jacobs

Which one is your favourite?

4. To go out for dinner even though your fridge is full

Bamboo Tablet

Friday, August 24, 2012

So I was recently able to get myself a Bamboo Capture Tablet! I've wanted one for the better part of a year - and so when I was presented with the opportunity to get one, I didn't hesitate! This drawing tablet is amazing!

As you can tell by the shaky header and little heart on the header below, I'm currently getting used to drawing on the tablet surface and looking at my computer screen. It's quite difficult and  it's probably going to take a little while before I'm pro at that.

Not only can you draw with the Bamboo Capture - you can edit photos, sign documents (!!!) and play really fun drawing games. My favourite is the "Mona Lisa" game.

Doesn't she look worlds better with a pearl necklace and some highlights?!

Anyway - I love my new drawing tablet and can't wait to use it for fun and exciting things on the blog!

The Dressy Dress

Thursday, August 23, 2012

I suddenly have quite a few events coming up that require a 'dressy' dress. I find that it's pretty difficult to find such a dress without looking like I'm headed to the prom. I do not appreciate the layers upon layers of tulle that companies are making their dresses with these days! I love a good challenge, and it was a lot of fun picking out 'dressy' dresses that suit me.

Let's explore!

I love how flowy the J. Crew dresses are! These are great because the silhouette is timeless , so you can wear these dresses for years to come. I really like that they are not fussy. They are pretty, but don't scream, "look at me!" They are simple, classic and effortless. 10 points!

Kate Spade dresses have a lot of personality - which I really like. I would invest in these because they are very versatile, which is important for limited budgets.

Lilly Pulitzer does the navy dress very well. The detailing on both dresses is just enough, and for someone who loves Lilly but not bold prints - these are perfect!

What are your favourite 'dresssy' dresses?

Decorate Me: Picture Frames

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

My favourite item to dress up a room is the picture frame. There are so many unique kinds of frames so it's nearly impossible to get bored with them. Since I'm at school 2/3 of the year, I bring a lot of framed pictures to place throughout my apartment.

Here are some share-worthy frames:

Greek Letter Frame - Alexandra and Company

Chevron Frame - Anthropologie

Arbera Frame - Dormify

Preppy Scientist School Supplies

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

I just finished shopping for my school supplies and couldn't help but post about it. I tend to buy fancy school supplies because it makes school less boring! Using cute tools totally makes those calculus problems less painful.

My go to supplies are:

Lilly Pulitzer Make-Up Case (turned pencil bag)

Other not-so-fun supplies I rely on are my scientific calculator, dissection kit and clicker.

Back to School: School Approved Shoes

Saturday, August 18, 2012

We're continuing on with the Back to School posts! I'm headed back to school a week today and I am so excited - I digress.

Around campus I see a lot of ladies wearing pretty unreasonable shoes. I can't imagine how 5 inch heels are practical or comfortable when you have a full day of classes. While I'm not necessarily opposed to heels, I myself prefer flat shoes. Ballet flats, loafers and sandals (when appropriate) are my go-to school shoes.

Here are some of my favourite school-approved shoes!

Loafers are my favourite 'dressy' shoe.
I wear these to school if I have a meeting or presentation.
They are so comfortable and the small heel gives me some height!

I sport these on my busy days.
I like that they have the support and feel of a running shoe - but don't come with the added bulk!

I love the classic ballet flat.
They can easily be dressed up or down and some in so many different colours!

The standard boat shoe is quite versatile. They are extremely comfortable (once broken in) and go with a variety of outfits!

What are your go-to shoes?

Light A Candle

Friday, August 17, 2012

I'm really excited to be living in my own apartment this year because I can light candles. In on-campus housing, candles are strictly banned and it sucked!

I absolutely love the Slatkin and Co. candles sold at Bath and Body works. I got to preview the Fall Scents (now available online and in store) and I fell in love with them all! Autumn is my favourite season because of all the wonderful scents that come with it. I especially love the special Fall drinks that Starbucks comes out with!

It was really hard for me to narrow it down to just four favourites, but here they are! I can't wait to light these in my apartment.

All candles pictured are available online and in store.

If you follow me on Twitter then you may know that I'm currently writing a tough final paper. I want nothing more than to ace this final and it's starting to take it's toll on me.

This quote really put everything into perspective for me, and even though I'm tired - I'm going to give this last little hurdle my all.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Despite it being the end of summer, I am still in school. As a matter of fact I am in the midst of writing final essays and also packing to move back to Windsor.
For that reason I am currently living in yoga pants. I actually really like the Old Navy yoga pant and they make up most of my collection. I'm in the market for some new (stylish) yoga pants and here are some great options

And now for the wishlist:

Lab Coat Chic

Monday, August 13, 2012

The namesake for this blog comes from the fact that I am currently working towards my Forensic Science degree! I love science and all things preppy - and I'm simply trying to marry these two loves of mine!

I'm entering the third year of my degree and really getting to take specialized courses. Most of these courses require a lot of lab work and it's always a struggle for me choosing what to wear in the lab. There are a lot of  rules in the lab like no open shoes or contact lenses and you must wear the not-so-flattering lab coat. What you wear under a lab coat really matters. If you layer too much - it will feel very bulky and uncomfortable.

Labcoat - Science Bob Store
Top - Old Navy
Jeans - Old Navy
Cardigan - Old Navy
Glasses - Clearly Contacts
Shoes - Toms

They key to lab coat dressing is wearing a simple light outfit underneath, and bringing an extra sweater with you to throw on after class.

Back to School: Bags and Books

Saturday, August 11, 2012

I've written a post before strictly about tote bags, however I realize that not everyone likes tote bags for school - I digress. Stylish school bags can be hard to find, especially if you're shopping in a standard "bag store". Although I swear by the tote bag, here are some stylish backpacks (with one tote thrown in) that are perfect for school!

Leather Pack - Roots
Quilted Laptop Backpack - Vera Bradley
Monogrammed Floral Backpack - 2 Preppy Girls
Monogrammed Boat Tote - Marley Lilly

Now if you're wondering about the "books" part of this post - wonder no more! I've partnered up with Knet Books so that now you can rent textbooks through The Preppy Scientist! I'm really excited about this because I myself have saved so much money renting textbooks, and I am so happy to be able to share the savings with my readers!

So head on over to Knet Books and rent your books for the 2012-13 school year!

Kate Spade Fall 2012 Lookbook

Thursday, August 9, 2012

I get really excited when I see my favourite brands publish their Fall 2012 lookbooks. I recently shared the Old Navy lookbook - and now I've got my Kate Spade favourites to share.
It was super difficult to narrow my favourites down to a few. I'm really loving the Parisian feel that the Fall clothes have. I've always wanted to travel to France - and although that won't be for a while, these clothes will make me feel like I'm walking the streets of Paris - instead of my tiny college campus.

I'm a huge fan of dresses with a simple silhouette. They can easily be dressed up or down!

I love these tops. They are effortlessly chic!

An assortment of accessories that I absolutely love!

The entire collection can be viewed here and all items are available online here
